The Boston Red Sox busted open for five runs in the first inning against Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta and then had to hold on to win 5-4 Friday night at Fenway.

Rookie Andrew Benintendi ripped a home run as part of that big first inning.

Arrieta settled down and other Sox threats were snuffed out with doubleplay balls.

The Cubs chipped away, scoring twice off starter Drew Pomeranz throught six innings. Addes more runs off Robbie Scott and Joe Kelly. Then two big outs recorded by Fernando Abad to end the 8th inning.

Craig Kimbrell pitched the 9th inning at got his 8th save.
