The Red Sox have agreed to terms with free agent pitcher Edward Mujica on a two year deal worth $9.5 million, according to multiple reports. Look for him to start next season as a late inning bullpen guy and perhaps the closer-in-waiting if Koji Uehara falters.

The 29-year-old Mujica ascended to the St.Louis Cardinals closer role during last season. In fact, he saved 37 games before flaming out in the late season and the Cards then turned to Trevor Rosenthal. Mujica was battling a groin injury.

In 64 innings last season he had a 2.78 ERA with just 5 walks and 46 strikeouts.

The Sox have talked about getting some insurance for Uehara in that closer role. Looks like Mujica could be that insurance policy.
