Opening day was a Yankee Doodle Dandy...for the Red Sox... An 8-2 win over CC Sabathia and the Yanks. John Farrell wins his debut as Sox manager.

Jon Lester gets the win, allowing just 2 runs in five innings. He struck out 7, walked two and gave up five hits.

Koji Uehara,Andrew Miller,Andrew Bailey,Junichi Tazawa and Joel Hanrahan combined to pitch four innings of shutout ball in relief.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Jose Iglesias had three hits each. Shane Victorino had 2 hits and drove in three runs. Dustin Pedroia and Jonny Gomes also had two hits each.

Rookie outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr walked three times, drove in a run and made a terrific catch in leftfield in his major league debut.

Tuesday is an off day. Clay Buchholz will start Wednesday against the Yanks.
