Saturday afternoon the UMaine football team beat up Rhode Island 41-0 and the Rhody season ended with a 3-9 record. Today URI coach Joe Trainer is out of a job. The five year head coach was released from his contract with one year left on it, according to Rhode Island athletic director Thorr Bjorn.

Trainer came to URI in 2008 as defensive coordinator for a year, then took over as head coach a year later.

The Rams had an overall record of 12-44 and a CAA record of 8-32 during his tenure.

URI says it will conduct a national search for a new coach.
