Royals Upset #1 Washburn
Last season the Old Town Coyotes lost to Waterville in the prelims, this year they reversed the tables and beat the Purple Panthers 73-44.The Coyotes put nine different players in the scoring column led by Eric Hoogterp with a game high 24 points, including 17 in the second half. Scott Smart came off the bench to hit three of Old Town's 10 3-pointers and finish with 14 points. The Coyotes improve to 13-5 on the season and will play the first game of the tournament at the Cross Center on Friday night against the #3 seed MDI.
A major upset took place in class D as #16 Jonesport-Beals traveled to Washburn and beat the #1 Beavers 66-63. Cole Beal led the Royals with 30 points, thanks in part to 5 3-pointers. Other upsets saw #11 George Stevens Academy beat #6 Dexter 59-53, Bangor Christian, the #10 seed beat #7 Woodland 54-32, and Ft. Fairfield advanced to the Cross Center as the #11 Tigers beat #6 Machias 65-48.
