Chris Sale was nothing short of brilliant vs Tampa Bay last night in a 2-0 win for the Red Sox. Sale struck out 13 batters, walked just one and allowed two hits in eight innings.

The Rays didn't have a chance.

Ditto for the 9th inning when Craig Kimbrel struck out the side.

The win is a season high 7th straight victory for the (64-49) Sox and with the Yankees losing 4-2 to Toronto give Boston a four game lead in the AL East.

The Sox offense managed 12 hits, three each by Eduardo Nunez and Xander Bogaerts, but only the two runs. Rafael Devers drove one run in on an infield out. Jackie Bradley Jr. knocked in the other with a late game single.

Sale didn't need many runs. He lowered his league leading ERA to 2.57 to go along with a 14-4 record. His 229 strikeouts lead the league and he has double digit strikeouts in 15 starts this season.

Rick Porcello takes the mound for the Sox tonight in the second and final game of the series.
