Police in Scarborough are investigating an early morning attack in which a 47-year-old man was shot while he slept.

Scarborough Police say 47-year-old Bruce Glidden suffered non-life threatening injuries to his torso and was taken to Maine Medical Center. His wife Amy and two juvenile children were asleep in other areas of the house and were unharmed.

The family woke to the sound of gunfire at around 1:30 Monday morning. The suspect, who didn't threaten anyone else in the home, fled immediately after the shooting. Police say the suspect got in through an unlocked door. There's no word on whether anything was taken from the house.

Police say this appears to be a targeted event, but residents are asked to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and report anything suspicious.
