The Boston Red Sox and the Portland Seadogs have extended their partnership for another four years. In other words, Hadlock Field in Portland will be home for the Sox Double A team at least through 2018.

The announcement came Friday night in Portland at the Seadogs annual Hot Stove Night attended by 400 fans plus special guests Trot Nixon, the former Sox outfielder and Josh Reddick, a former Seadogs player and now Oakland A's.

The current agreement between the Seadogs and Red Sox runs through 2014. The four year extension is unusual but clearly shows Sox management is very happy with their affiliation with Portland and how the Seadogs team is run.

Current Sox players such as Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Jon Lester, Will Middlebrooks, Daniel Bard and others spend time at Hadlock Field.

The upcoming season will be the 20th year of Double A baseball in Portland. It will be the 11th season as a Red Sox affiliate. Opening day is April 4th.
