The bigger and more seasoned Shead Tigers proved too much for the Washburn Beavers in Thursday night's semifinal match-up at the Cross Insurance Center.

The defending Class D North champs jumped out top an early lead and never looked back as the Tigers of Easport came away with a 51-29 win and another trip to the regional finals Saturday morning in Bangor.

Holly Preston led the veteran Shead team with 24 points. Sophomore Madison Greenlaw scored 10 points and junior Cassidy Wilder had nine points.

Washburn earned a trip to Thursday's semifinal after upsetting Central Aroostook, but the young team -- comprised mainly of underclassmen and some eighth graders -- couldn't generate any offense against the bigger and stronger Tigers.

Maggie Castonguay led the Beavers with 10 points. Cassandra Farley had 9 points for Washburn.

No. 2 Shead improves to 18-2 with the win. No. 6 Washburn finishes the season at 11-9.
