Red Sox reliever Carson Smith made his first appearance of the 2016 season as he made a rehab outing in Portland with the Sea Dogs on Friday evening.

Smith was sent to the Red Sox Double A affiliate to get ready to join Boston in their upcoming road trip against the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.  He has been dealing with a forearm strain that he sustained back in Spring Training.  Smith sported a 2.31 ERA in 70 innings last season with the Seattle Mariners.  He was traded to Boston as part of the deal that sent Wade Miley to the Mariners this past off-season.
