For the second time this fall, Husson Eagles RB John Smith is the New England Football Writers Association 'Golden Helmet Award' winner for his efforts in Saturday's NCAA playoff win over Springfield.

The weekly award goes to the top Division II or Division III player in New England for the week as determined by the NEFW.

Smith is the only D-II/III player to win the award twice this year. It puts him as the frontrunner to receive the 'Golden Helmet Award' for the 2017 season.

Smith rushed 43 times for 164 yards and two TDs in the 23-21 over Springfield.

For the season, Smith has now rushed for 2.081 yards and 30 TDs.

NOTE: The Eagles will travel to Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania Saturday for their second round NCAA game. Kickoff is noon.
