Though it is officially spring in the state of Maine, you would be hard pressed to believe it judging by the fields at the University of Maine and Husson University.

Both baseball fields at the local schools were still dealing with snow, though Mahaney Diamond in Orono was further along in the process of removal than the Eagles at the Winkin Complex.  The Eagles already had their home opener moved last week and are hopeful to be able to play this weekend in Bangor, according to head coach Jason Harvey.  UMaine is on the road and are set for their home debut on April 8th against Hartford.

The grass softball fields at UMaine and Husson both had significant snow on the playing surface as of Thursday afternoon.  Crews at UMaine were removing snow off of Mike Kessock Field on Thursday, but still had most of the surface covered by the recently fallen precipitation.  The field at Husson was covered severely as of Thursday and the home opener had already been moved to Colby College this weekend.  The Black Bears will play their first game in Orono on April 8th.
