So. Portland’s Jon Gillies Hockey East Rookie Of The Year
With the Hockey East final four set to face-off at the Boston Garden Friday night, the end of the season awards were handed out with Johnny Geudreau getting Player of the Year honors.The Boston College sophomore has 20 goals and 29 assists on the season and is just the fourth underclassman in league history to be selected as Player of the Year, joining NHL legends Brian Leetch and Paul Kariya who won the award as freshman and current BC associate head coach Greg Brown.
South Portland native Jon Gillies was named the Rookie of the Year. Gillies posted a .929 save percentage to go along with five shutouts for the Providence College Friars.
Norm Bazin who led the UMass Lowell River Hawks to their first ever Hockey East regular season championship received the Coach of the Year award.
