J.D. Martinez hit his major league best 25th home run as the Red Sox beat the Angels 9-6 at Fenway Park last night.

The win, combined with a Yankees loss, moves the Sox back into first place in the AL East at 54-27. The Sox have played 81 games - exactly halfway through the season.

The Martinez three-run homer was a big part of a six run 3rd inning and he became the new franchise record holder with 25 homers before the end of June.

Eduardo Nunez and Sandy Leon also hit home runs in the 3rd.

Credit the Angels as they came back to tie the game at 6-6 but the Sox added on with two runs in the 7th and one in the 8th.

The final game of the series in tonight. Live coverage of Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket starts at 6:25pm.
