Hermon native Dr.Micky Collins is one of the foremost specialists when it comes to the treatment of sports concussions. The Red Sox and their catcher David Ross have turned to him for help.

Ross has suffered two concussions already this season from taking foul tips off the mask. Ross was examined by Dr.Collins at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and has a follow-up appointment in July. In the meantime Ross has returned to his Florida home. The Sox have put Ross on the 60-day DL.

Ryan Lavarnway has been called up to be backup catcher for the Sox.

Dr.Collins has worked with many high profile athletes including Sidney Crosby and Dale Earnhardt Jr. He is MLB's consultant on concussions.

Collins played baseball in high school for the Hermon Hawks and played for the USM Huskies baseball team that competed in the division-3 world series in 1989.
