Sox First 2 Picks Are High Schoolers [VIDEO]
The Red Sox took a high school shortstop from Georgia with their first round draft pick, 18-year-old Michael Chavis. He is described as a Dustin Pedroia type player and while he plays shortstop now he projects at second or third base in the pros. Chavis hit .580 with 13 home runs, 37 RBI and 21 steals in his senior year.
Chavis has signed to play college baseball at Clemson for former UM Black Bear Jack Leggett but admitted last night he wants to turn pro.
With the #33 overall pick (compensation for Jacoby Ellsbury), the Sox drafted a high school RHP from Texas, Michael Kopech.
In the 2nd round (#67) the Sox picked a college first baseman (Indiana U), Sam Travis.
