Just hours after yesterday's opening day win over the Phillies, the Red Sox announced a contract extension with RHP Rick Porcello - 4 years and $82.5 million dollars.

Porcello will make his Red Sox debut tomorrow night against the Phillies in game two of the season. He was acquired in the off-season from the Detroit Tigers for Yoenis Cespedes.

He is 26-years-old and was set to begin his free agent year.

Instead of playing out the year, like Jon Lester did a year ago, Porcello decided to take the extension and the Red Sox will control him through age 30.

He becomes the highest paid pitcher in Sox history with the annual salary averaging $20.6 million over the length of the deal.
