The Boston Red Sox have agreed to terms with relief pitcher Casey Janssen to a minor league contract, according to the Boston Globe.

The Sox lost reliever Carson Smith last month to an injury and were linked to Janssen for a few weeks before the signing.  Janssen last pitched in 2015 for the Washington Nationals and had a 4.95 ERA in 48 appearances.  The right hander spent eight years in the American League East with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2006 to 2014 and compiled a 3.52 ERA with 90 saves in 389 games.

The Red Sox bullpen has a 3.57 ERA this season through 64 games.  Janssen will report to Single A Lowell before joining the Pawtucket Red Sox.
