Every community has that special person. Someone who always steps up and volunteers time to make sure that sports programs remain vibrant in that town or city.

And for the 5th consecutive year, Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket and Hero's Sports Grill in downtown Bangor will partner to honor the best of the best sports volunteers around Maine.

Each fall, three community volunteers are honored at a special luncheon in November and each volunteer receives a Sports Hero's Award.

Do you know someone that fits the description in your community?

Is he or she a longtime volunteer coach or referee? The concession stand go-to person? That volunteer who is always there to repair equipment or make sure the fields are ready for play? Maybe someone who is a fundraiser extraordinaire? Youth sports, school sports, every organization has at least one special person that should be recognized.

We urge you to take a moment and nominate that special volunteer. Deadline to nominate at 929theticket.com is Friday, October 13th.

Past winners have come from all over our region...
