Mainer Steve Clifford has spent several years next to Stan Van Gundy and other NBA head coaches. Now he may get his chance to be a head coach.

He is one of three finalists for the Milwaukee Bucks head coaching job. And is at least in the discussion for the Charlotte Bobcats job. Michael Jordan is owner of the Bobcats.

Clifford (left of Van Gundy in photo) is a graduate of UMaine Farmington. He coached Woodland High School for two years, before coaching in college.

He's worked as an assistant coach in the NBA with both Jeff Van Gundy and Stan Van Gundy, with the Houston Rockets, NY Knicks and Orlando Magic.

This season, Clifford came in to assist LA Lakers coach Mike Brown. Brown got fired but Mike D'Antoni kept Clifford.

Perhaps this is the year Clifford gets the chance to run his own team.
