For Kenduskeag's Alan Strout, it pays to be a lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan. Strout has won a contest to be an Aberdeen Ironbirds player for a day. Aberdeen is a minor league affiliate team owned by Cal Ripken.

Strout admits to having 33,000 items of Baltimore Orioles memorabilia in his house, all cataloged. But, that alone did not win the contest.

He had to submit an essay on why he should be picked through the Topps Card Company and then had to compete for votes via facebook.over the past week. Strout won with over 1,400 votes.

Now Strout gets to spent a day in uniform with the Aberdeen team this summer. He will throw out the first pitch for a game and will get to meet Cal Ripken.

In the meantime, he will have time to get in shape by keeping his 33,000 items dusted off!
