Sweden Shocks US Women’s Soccer

The favorites to win the 2016 gold medal in the women's soccer tournament lost in the quarterfinals as the USA fell to Sweden.

The US had not lost a game in 2016 before Friday afternoon.  The American goalkeeper Hope Solo was heckled throughout the duration of the game with chants of "Zika".  Solo was outspoken after the contest and said 'the better team did not win'.  The loss continues the string of the World Cup champion failing to achieve the gold medal in the year following.

Sweden now awaits the winner of Australia and Brazil as the team's next opponent in the semi-final round.
