The top-seed Southern Aroostook Warriors advanced to the North region finals with a convincing win over No. 4 Central Aroostook at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Thursday.

Southern Aroostook (19-1) will play No. 2 Machias (19-1) on Championship Saturday.

The Panthers hung tough with the Warriors for the first half, trailing by only 8 points at the intermission. However, Southern Aroostook, of Dyer Brook, turned it on in the second half, pulling away to a 57-33 win.

Senior Nolan Altvater led the Warriors with 19 points, 11 of those points in the third quarter. Senior Jackson Mathers had 15 points, five of which came from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Ben Thomas led the Panthers with 11 points.

Southern Aroostook will play the Machais Bulldogs for the Class D North title at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 25.
