Tortorella Takes Over NHL’s Blue Jackets [VIDEO]
Former UMaine hockey player John Tortorella is back as a NHL head coach - this time with the 0-7 Columbus Blue Jackets.
Todd Richards was fired after Columbus lost for a 7th time Tuesday night. It is the worst start in their franchise history.
In comes Tortorella, who was fired by Vancouver after the 2013-14 season. The Blue Jackets job will be his fourth team - he coached the Tampa Bay Lightning to a Stanley Cup in 2004. Tortorella also was head coach for the NY Rangers before the Vancouver job.
Tortorella is the winningest American-born coach in the NHL.
He played at UMaine from 1978-1981.
