Houlton Defeats George Stevens To Claim North Title [BOYS]

The Houlton Shiretowners made short work of the three-time defending state champions Saturday night, outplaying the George Stevens Academy Eagles and claiming the regional championship.

Houlton held a double-digit lead most of the night -- leading by as many as 20 points -- and came away with a 54-34 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The Shiretowners led 25-15 at the half and built on that lead in the second half as the Eagles struggled to score.

Keegan Gentle led Houlton with 18 points. Nolan Porter had 14 points. >>MORE>>

Penobscot Valley Earns Hard-fought Win Over Dexter [GIRLS]

The Penobscot Valley Howlers claimed the northern Maine championship after a defensive battle with the Dexter Tigers Saturday evening in Bangor.

The Howlers had to overcome a slow start, scoring only four points in the first half. Overcome it they did, with their defense stymieing the Tigers' offense in the second half. When the buzzer sounded, the Howlers won 24-20.

Hermon Hawks vs. Caribou Vikings

Caribou Grounds Hermon Hawks, Claims North Title [BOYS]

The Caribou Vikings stopped the Hermon Hawks unbeaten streak at 42 games, claiming the regional north title in thrilling fashion on Saturday.

The No. 2 Vikings ousted the defending state champions 43-40 in front of an estimated 4,000 fans at a rocking Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Caribou advances to the state title game against the south champion next Saturday.

Junior Parker Deprey led the Vikings with 19 points. Austin Findlen added 11 points.

For the Hawks, Cody Hawes had 14 points. Isaac Varney scored 11 points and Garrett Trash scored 10 points. >>MORE>>

Top-seed MDI Claims North Title With Win Over Waterville [GIRLS]

The top-seed MDI Trojans advanced to the state final after a win over previously unbeaten Waterville Saturday afternoon in Bangor.

MDI controlled the game from start-to-finish as Waterville was unable to come any closer than eight points in the final quarter. When the buzzer sounded, MDI came away with the 44-35 win.

Senior captain Julia Watras led the Trojans (19-2) with 17 points. Maddie Candage and Hannah Chamberlain each had nine points. Alexis Clarito added eight points. >>MORE>>

Schenck Claims North Title With Win Over Jonesport-Beals [BOYS]

The Schenck Wolverines will play for the state championship after handling Jonesport Beals in a Saturday afternoon regional final in Bangor.

The No. 4 Wolverines started in a hurry, holding a nine-point edge at the end of one quarter and building the lead throughout the second half on their way to a 70-47 win over the No. 2 Royals at the Cross Insurance Center.

Travis Thompson led Schenck with 20 points -- including his 1,000th career point. Isaac Adams and Tyrone Davis each had 15 points. Colby Hannan had 12 points in the win. >>MORE>>

Warriors To Defend State Title After Win Over Deer Isle-Stonington [GIRLS]

The defending champion Southern Aroostook Warriors will play for yet another state title next week after defeating Deer Isle-Stonington Saturday in the first game of the day at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The top-seed Warriors (17-2) held a double-digit lead for much of the contest on their way to a 62-49 win over a tough Mariners squad.
