The Red Sox have signed their #1 draft pick, high school pitcher Trey Ball. Seems like that $2.75 milliion dollar signing bonus convinced him to forget colleg and turn pro.

Ball is 18-years-old and pitched for a high school in Indiana. He's 6-6 and he's a lefty. The Sox selected him with the 7th overall pick in the MLB draft. The team had not picked that high in the draft since Trot Nixon was picked #7 over 20 years ago.

He signed the paperwork at Fenway and spent time on the field and clubhouse before last night's game against Tampa Bay. He will soon report to Ft Myers, Florida to begin his pro baseball program and will likely join the Gulf Coast League Red Sox team later in the summer.
