Both the University of Maine women’s and men’s basketball teams lost on the road on Tuesday afternoon and evening. The women’s side lost in the Miami Holiday Tournament Title game to the #11 ranked Hurricanes by a score of 76-51, while the men’s team went down to Providence College with a 79-59 loss.

#11 Miami 76-51 Maine

The Black Bears were outrebounded by the ‘Canes in the contest 40-23 and Maine was unable to keep up with Adrienne Motley, who had a game high 22 points for Miami.  Tanesha Sutton led Maine in scoring for the second consecutive game, logging 13 points and being named to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament team as a result.  This was the third straight game that the Duquesne transfer has reached double digits in scoring.  Blanca Millan also hit double digits in the contest for the Black Bears.  With the loss the Black Bears drop their record down to 7-6 on the season and will next face Tulane University on December 28th.

Providence 79-59 Maine

The men’s team dropped the game to the Friars after being outscored 41-25 in the first half of play.  The Black Bears shot 39 percent from the floor and over 30 percent for three point range, but it was not enough to keep up with Providence.  Andrew Fleming logged his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Wes Myers had his third straight game of double figure points with 11.  Next up for the 4-8 Black Bears is a match-up with Brown University on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 on the road.
