The University of Maine field hockey team snagged the top spot in the East Division of the America East Coaches’ poll on Wednesday afternoon.

The Black Bears received three of the five first place votes in the East and tallied 15 total points in the poll.  Albany received the other two first place votes and was selected second, followed by New Hampshire, UMass Lowell, and Vermont.  Reigning America East champion Stanford was projected first in the West division of the conference over Pacific, California, and UC Davis.

The Black Bears were nationally ranked at one point last season and finished in second place to Albany in the regular season standings.  UMaine will begin their season on August 25th when they travel to Providence College to face the Friars.
