It's called the Grant Standbrook Forever Fund. The new fundraising plan for UMaine hockey that will honor the former Black Bear assistant coach and at the same time bring UMaine closer to its goal of a $7 million dollar endowment for the hockey program.

Head coach Red Gendron gets the new fund started by donating 5% of his yearly salary to the Forever Fund.

Earlier in the fall, Tom and Sally Savage pledged $1 million to match all endowment gifts  from all former UMaine players and coaches. The plan is to raise a total of $7 million dollars to establish an operating endowment.

Gendron wants to get the financial piece of Maine hockey in place so future coaches can concentrate exclusively on hockey and student academics while knowing the endowment can handle operating expenses.

Standbrook coached at Maine from 1988 to 2008.
