The college basketball season is underway. The UMaine Black Bears teams open with losses, the men's team lost to Boston College on the road while the women's team lost at home to Tulane.

BC  85   UMaine  65 - The Black Bears began the season in ACC land and the first of several guarantee games where the program gets paid money that helps with the budget.

The  Bears grabbed an early 12-6 lead but by halftime BC had got its game together and led seven points.

Then the Eagles scored 50 points in the second half to end up winning by 20. BC shot 53% from the floor in that second half.

Ky Bowman and Jerome Robinson led the Eagles with 18 points each.

Maine was led by Ilija Stojiljkovic with 14 points and Aaron Calixite had 12.

The Bears play at Texas Tech on Tuesday.

Tulane  42   UMaine  34 - The UMaine women's team is hosting a weekend four-team tourney to start the season. The Bears got outscored 14-4 in the fourth quarter and the Green Wave put the game away.

Maine actually had a two point lead in the low scoring game heading into the fourth.

Both teams shot under 30% from the floor.

Kolby Morgan led Tulane with 18 points.

Tanesha Sutton had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bears.

Now Maine plays Harvard this afternoon at 4pm. The Crimson lost to Dayton in the tourney 72-66.
