The UMaine Black Bear football team is picked to finish in 7th place out of 12 teams in the CAA conference this fall. Three UM players are preseason All Conference picks.

At CAA media day in Baltimore, coaches and sports information personnel think Villanova is the team to beat. The Wildcats got 14 first place votes.

James Madison University and University of New Hampshire each got five first place votes.

Defensive end Trevor Bates and linebacker Chrisophe Muluma Tshimanga were selected all conference players, as was center Bruce Johnson on the offensive side.

Jack Cosgrove's Black Bears finished 4-4 in CAA play a year ago, 5-6 overall.

The season opener is September 5th at Boston College.
