Two University of Maine women’s basketball recruits have led their team to an undefeated mark through the first two games of the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship.

Naira Caceres and Laia Sole each logged significant minutes for Spain in the Group C stage of the tournament in games versus Serbia and Belgium.  Caceres had 11 points against Serbia and 14 against Belgium, which led all Spanish scorers.  Sole has averaged 18 minutes per game and scored nine points against Belgium.  Spain will now play Lithuania on Tuesday and then will again the first game of the Round of 16 on Wednesday.

Both Caceres and Sole will join the Black Bears in the fall of 2016 and will be part of a seven player incoming freshman class that will feature representation from Croatia, Spain, Canada, Sweden, and Maine.  The Black Bears will begin the season with an exhibition game at the Cross Insurance Center against Stonehill College on October 30th.
