The University of Maine women’s basketball team is beginning to process of filling the seven departures from the program.

Interim Head Coach Amy Vachon announced on Thursday afternoon that the program has signed 6-3 forward Ashlyn McDonald from Highland Community College in Kansas.

McDonald averaged 5.8 points per game last season and had 3.9 rebounds as a sophomore for the Scotties.  Highland put up a record of 28-4 mark for the season, while McDonald shot 53.4 percent from the floor.  She originally comes from Tullahoma, Tennessee and averaged 4.7 blocks and 3.6 steals during her time in high school and will be eligible to play for the Black Bears starting with the fall semester.

McDonald will join Kelly Fogarty who committed to the program this past fall.  UMaine graduated Sigi Koizar and Sheraton Jones this past season and announced in March that five players had asked and been granted their release from the team.  Maine reached the America East championship game for the second consecutive year this past March.
