UMaine In Search Of New AD; Abbott To Rejoin Sen. Susan Collins Staff
University of Maine Athletic Director Steve Abbott and President Paul Ferguson have announced that Abbott will be stepping down from his position this fall.Abbott who has been the AD for the past three years will be joining U.S. Senator Susan Collins in Washington as her Chief of Staff. This marks a return the position he served from 1997-2009.
In a press release issued by UMaine Abbott said "The University of Maine is a special place for me and my family. Given my family history and my affinity for Black Bear athletics, I am especially pleased to have been part of the Athletics Department the last three years. I have great respect for the staff and coaches, and I continue to be impressed by the commitment and the work ethic of our student athletes. They are a real credit to this institution."
A search for Abbott's replacement has already begun by President Ferguson.
