UMaine's Wes Myers scored 30 points but it wasn't enough to beat the Vermont Catamounts in the America East Conference opener at the Cross Center. The Cats beat the Bears 90-77.

The injury riddled Black Bears stayed within striking distance all night. But UVM shot 63% from the field and outscored a small Maine lineup 54-34.

Kurt Steidl led the Catamounts with 20 points, including career point #1000.

Along with Myers 30 points, Ryan Bernstein (12), Aaron Calixte (11) and Austin Howard (11) were in double figure scoring.

UMaine falls to 4-12 (0-1 AE). Vermont is 11-5 (1-0 AE).
