Both the University of Maine baseball and softball teams had their backs against the wall Friday ad had mixed results.The baseball team is fighting for a spot in the conference tournament while the softball team was fighting to stay in the tourney. Baseball team picked up a big double header sweep of Binghamton winning the first game 7-1 and the nightcap 3-2.

Kevin Stypulkowski and Brenden Geary each had 2 hits and 2 rbi to lead the Bears offence in the first game. Justin Courtney got the win after going 5.1 innings allowing one run ad striking out 4.

Stypulkowski was key in the second game as well by driving in the tying run with a double and scoring the winning run in a 3-run 5th inning.

The two teams will play the finale of their weekend series today at Mahaney Diamond with a first pitch of 4pm.

The UMaine softball team had their season come to an end in the America East Tournament Friday night. After posting a 10-7 win over Albany earlier in the day, the Bears fell to Binghamton 8-0 in an elimination game.

Maine finishes the season with a 22-19 record, their first 20 win season in 5 years. The Bears lose the America East Pitcher of the Year Alexis Bogdanovich to graduation but will return 3 of their top 5 hitters next year.
