Former Westbrook HS and UMaine linebacker Trevor Bates is getting another crack at the NFL. The Detroit Lions have signed Bates to a free agent contract.

Bates had a brilliant 46 game career for the Black Bears. He was drafted in the 7th round of the NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016.

After getting released by Indy during the season, the Patriots signed him to their practice squad and earned a Super Bowl championship ring.

Last season Bates spent time on the NY Giants practice squad.
