The UMaine men's and women's basketball teams play the new kids in America East Conference tonight, the UMass Lowell Riverhawks. The men play at the Cross Center in Bangor while the women play in Massachusetts.

UMass Lowell is surprising a few folks with their play in their first year of division-one play. The Riverhawks are 3-3 in the conference, 3-14 overall. That includes losses to the likes of Michigan, Cinncinati, and St. Bonaventure.

Maine is trying to snap a four game losing streak. The Bears are 1-4 in AE, 3-14 overall.

The women's matchup has Richard Barron's team playing better ball lately with a 3-2 conference record and 9-9 overall.

UML is struggling at 1-5 and 2-15.

Maine and the Riverhawks have a rich history in hockey. Until this year, UML played division one only in hockey.
