With hockey season in the rear view mirror, major improvements continue at Penobscot Ice Arena with the removal of the old boards and arrival of the new boards. When George and Linda Bishop took over the arena, they made a commitment to upgrade the facility that had fallen on hard times. After numerous improvements during the fall and winter months, the work continues this spring. The old boards have been removed and donated to a group from Washington County who plan to create an outdoor rink in Machias.

The new boards which have been purchased from the MHG arena in Saco are just six years old and will be installed starting Saturday. Bishop said a company from Minnesota will be on site to complete the installation process that will take four to five days.
