USM pitcher Shyler Scates pitched a complete game 6-hit shutout at the NCAA Regional and the Huskies beat Suffolk University 4-0 in first round action.

Scates (Erskine Academy) struck out six and did not walk a batter on the way to his his 6th win of the year.

The win puts USM at 32-13 overall and most importantly 1-0 at the regional.

The winners bracket bracket for the Huskies is Thursday at 4:30pm vs Salem State.

NOTE:  USM's junior shortstop Sam Dexter has won Player of the Year honors in the Little East Conference. Pitcher Andrew Richards and coach Ed Flaherty also have won major awards.

Dexter is the former Messalonskee HS standout. His numbers this spring for USM are staggering - .460 batting average, 8 HR, 43 RBI, 10 steals.

Senior Andrew Richards(South Portland HS) won the LEC Pitcher of the Year honor with 11 wins, 9 saves, a 1.62 ERA and 97 strikeouts - all stats led the conference.

And for the 8th time, Ed Flaherty wins Coach of the Year. His Huskies are 31-13 and the LEC champs. He won is 900th career game during the spring.
