Verlander, Upton Stop Sox [VIDEO]
Detroit Tigers' slugger Justin Upton pounded the long ball against the Red Sox in the series finale to take the win 10-5 against the Red Sox.
Upton hit a pair of three-run homers in the contest against starter Henry Owens to give Justin Verlander more than enough support to get the win. Upton would finish the game with two hits and six runs batted in for the contest. Verlander had six innings, allowing a lone run with five strikeouts in his 13th victory of the season.
It was a career day for Andrew Benintendi however who hit his first triple and home run of his MLB career in the contest. He would end the effort with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Owens, who made the spot start for the Sox after scheduled starter Eduardo Rodriguez was still dealing with hamstring issues on Saturday afternoon, went only five innings while giving up eight earned runs, six hits, and five walks.
The Sox are now 69-54 on the year and are just a half of a game back of the Toronto Blue Jays who lost to the Cleveland Indians 3-2 on Sunday. Boston will now head to Tampa Bay to open up a four game set with the Rays. David Price will receive the start against Blake Snell on Monday night.
