Not that there was much doubt, but Yarmouth, Maine born Oliver Wahlstrom has earned a spot on the final roster for the USA World Junior National Team that will compete in the IIHF World Junior Championship beginning next week in Vancouver.

Wahlstrom is the son of former UMaine player, Joakim Wahlstrom, who played for the Black Bears from 1988-90.

Oliver played for North Yarmouth Academy before going to out-of-state prep school. He has played for varius USA Hockey Development teams.

He is currently a freshman at Boston College.

In Saturday night's final exhibition game for Team USA vs Czech Republic, Wahlstrom scored the first two goals for USA in a 6-2 win. The U.S. team finished 2-0 in pre-tournament games.

The competition for the Gold Medal for the World Juniors begins Wednesday, December 26th when the USA team opens against Slovakia.

NOTE: Wahlstrom was drafted by the New Islanders with the 11th overall pick back in the June NHL draft...There are six players on the USA 23-man roster who play in Hockey East...There is one player (Kyle Keyser, Goalie) who belongs to the Boson Bruins...Last year, UMaine goalie Jeremy Swayman (Bruins draftee) was a member of the U.S. World Juniors team.
