Yarmouth's Oliver Wahlstrom and his Team USA mates will play for the gold medal in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Vancouver.

USA beat Russia 2-1 late Friday night and will now play Finland tonight at 8pm for the gold medal.

Wahlstrom scored the first goal for the U.S. team and was on the ice with the powerplay unit when the second goal was scored.

Wahlstrom is the son of former UMaine player Joakim Wahlstrom and is a freshman at Boston College. He was the 11th overall draft pick in June's NHL draft by the New York Islanders.

This world event is for the best Under-20 year old players in the world. Team USA is now 5-0-1-0. The team last won gold in 2017.

Last year, UMaine goalie Jeremy Swayman was on the U.S. team. He has now aged out.
