Seven groups after Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas tee off next Thursday in the opening round of the 100th PGA Golf Championship, Maine pro Shawn Warren tees off in his first ever PGA Tour tournament of his career.

Tee times and pairings have been released for the final 'major' of the year and Falmouth Country Club teaching pro Shawn Warren will tee it up at 9:02am Thursday with American J.J. Spaun and Finnish pro Mikko Korhonen.

He will become just the third Maine pro to play in the PGA Championship (Tim Angis 1993, John  Hickson 1997).

Warren earned a spot in the PGA Championship, played this year in St. Louis, by getting for one of 20 spots available for club pros at a tournament in California in late June. 312 golfers were competing in that event.

Warren played in the Greater Bangor Open three weeks ago and has played in other New England events to tune up for his biggest tourney of his life.

Warren won golf titles as a high schooler at Windham. He won both the Maine Junior Amateur and Maine Amateur Championships. He has also won many regional pro tournaments like the Maine Open and the Greater Bangor Open.

Last year, Justin Thomas won the PGA title and earned almost $1.9 million dollars. Players who made the cut last year earned at least $19,000 each.
