Wasilewski, Defense Solid Vs Spartans
UMaine quarterback Marcus Wasilewski threw for 209 yards while the UMaine defense gave up a total of 224 yards and that combination got the Black Bears a season opening win at Norfolk State 23-6.
The senior QB Wasilewski was 15 for 28 passing and one touchdown. His favorite target was Derrick Johnson with 8 catches for 82 yards. Zedric Joseph caught a pass and scampered 85 yards for one score. Running back Rickey Stevens scored on a 2 yard run. Sean Decloux kicked three field goals.
On defense the Bears gave up just 80 rush yards and 144 pass yards.
Maine (1-0) plays week two at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro when the opponent is UMass. The Minutemen (0-1) are in the FCS now and dropped their opener at Wisconsin 45-0.
