Weekend Split With Irish Helps UM Ranking

The UMaine hockey team got a bump in the PairWise national rankings with its weekend split at Notre Dame - up to #16 in the country. The USCHO national poll ranks the Bears at #21 but the closer to playoff time, the more important the PairWise stats become the numbers that matter most.

Boston College remains the #1 team in the nation with that 21-4-3 record. UMass-Lowell, Providence, Northeastern and Vermont are ahead of Maine in the PairWise.

The Bears host Merrimack this weekend at Alfond, then play weekend sets with Northeastern and Providence - those teams are currently tied at #11.

UPDATE: UM goalie Martin Ouellette has been named Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Ouellette made 75 saves over two night in South Bend. He shares the weekly award with Northeastern goalie Clay Witt.
