Union and Minnesota will play for the NCAA hockey championship after getting wins on the first day of the Frozen Four.The top seed Union took out Boston College 5-4 in a game that turned into a shootout in the third period. With the score tied at two after the two periods of play, Union got a couple quick goals to start the final period before BC got back on track and started to trade goals.  Daniel Ciampini's second goal of the game with 1:10 to play proved to be the game winner. BC's Johnny Gaudreau who had a goal and two assists fired a shot at the buzzer which was stopped, allowing Union to advance.

Minnesota also earned a spot in the title game with a 2-1 win over North Dakota. The Gophers scored a shorthanded goal with 1 second to play to pull out the win.
