The Winslow Black Raiders used their stifling defense to hold the Lake Region Lakers in check and come away with the Class B state title Friday night in Bangor.

The gold ball capped the Black Raiders' Cinderella run, entering the tournament as the No. 6 seed in the north and upsetting higher seeds all along the way.

When the buzzer sounded, Winslow came away with a 43-29 win and its first state title since 2005.

Senior Haley Ward led the Black Raiders with 12 points. Junior Weslee Littlefield added seven in the contest at the Cross Insurance Center.

Chandler True led the south champion Lakers with 12 points.

Winslow finishes the season at 18-5. Lake Region finishes at 16-6.
