The Winslow Black Raiders might have started slowly in their semifinal match-up with John Bapst, but that didn't last long.

Winslow's tenacious defense proved too much for the No. 2 Crusaders, who trailed in the contest for all but the first few minutes of their semifinal at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

When the buzzer sounded, Winslow came away with a 39-26 win and a trip to the regional final on Saturday.

The win came despite Winslow committing 25 turnovers.

Senior forward Haley Ward led Winslow (15-5) with 20 points.

Grace Phillipon led the Crusaders (15-5)  with nine points.

It was the second upset win for the Black Raiders. Winslow handily defeated No. 3 MDI in the quarterfinals.

Winslow will play in the north regional final at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
