Alex Demers of Winslow has been named the High School Athlete of the Week after his two-TD performance in the Black Raiders' season-opening win against the Nokomis Warriors on Saturday.

Demers won with 42 percent of the vote.

He played a key role in the Black Raiders' 28-20 triumph, scoring a pair of rushing touchdowns and adding a successful two-point conversion run.

Demers' two-yard rushing touchdown in the second half was followed by the successful two-point conversion attempt, putting Winslow ahead 16-14.

He plowed into the end zone again later in the game on fourth-and-goal from the 1, extending the Black Raiders' lead to 22-14.

Andrew Kiley of Brewer and Garrett Trask and Keith Pomeroy of the Hermon Hawks were also nominated for High School Athlete of the Week honors after strong performances during the opening weekend of the high school football season.
